What it does

Built for the way a busy week actually goes.

Made by a student for their own school year, then shared with friends. Everything is in one place, and nothing nags you until something's actually due.

Homework finds you

Connect your school and personal Gmail and calendars. Assignments, exams and deadlines are pulled from course emails and Canvas on their own, and so are emails still waiting on your reply. Drop in a syllabus or a flyer and Mellow suggests the dates to add.

Today, week, month

Every calendar and deadline on one timeline, with what to do next picked out for you.

Grades

Every course's grade now, what you need on the rest to get the grade you want, and your GPA. Drop the syllabus and the weights fill themselves in.

Subscriptions

Receipts and renewals in your email become a list of what you pay, from which card, and when it renews. New ones, price rises and trials about to charge get flagged.

Your money

Accounts, cards, bills, budgets and goals from your bank's exports. No bank logins, ever.

An assistant

Ask it to add things, plan your week, look something up, or even change how Mellow looks. It asks before it changes anything.

ADHD tools

A focus timer, today's three, a brain dump, and one small next step when you're stuck.

Sleep screen

Leave it alone and it turns into a clock over a famous painting, with your day beside it and a morning alarm.

Knows what to import

It tells you which file would fill in what's missing, like a course's syllabus or your latest bank export, and where to find it.

On your phone too

Your computer runs Mellow and your iPad or phone opens it, with Add to Home Screen. Everything stays on your computer; the phone is a window onto it.

Install

Up and running in two minutes.

Download the app for your computer. Everything it needs is inside, and after that it keeps itself up to date. Pick yours:

  1. Download Mellow for WindowsMellow-Setup.exe, about 35 MB, for Windows 10 or 11. If your browser says it isn't commonly downloaded, choose Keep.
  2. Open itDouble-click Mellow-Setup.exe. If Windows says it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. That's itMellow installs in a few seconds, adds itself to your desktop and Start menu, and opens in its own window. You can delete the download. Closing the window keeps Mellow running by the clock: right-click its icon to quit, or to start Mellow when you sign in.
  4. Connect Google, step by stepOpen Accounts. A checklist takes you to each page in Google Cloud with one button per step, then you choose the file you downloaded and press Connect. The Guide (9) covers the rest, like your phone.

What you'll need

A Windows PC or a Mac requiredWindows 10 or 11, or macOS 13.5 or newer. Nothing else to install: the app brings what it needs.
Your own Google sign-in optionalAbout 10 minutes, once, to let Mellow read your Gmail and Calendar. The app gives you a button for each step in Google Cloud, and Mellow can't send or delete anything.
An Anthropic API key optionalFor the assistant, reading dropped files and finding subscriptions. You pay Anthropic for what you use, usually a few dollars a month, with a monthly limit you set.
Always up to date

New features show up on their own.

Download the app once. Mellow checks for a new version a few times a day, and when there is one, a link appears in the sidebar with what's new. Update now installs it and restarts Mellow for you, with no new download.

Updates only replace Mellow's code. Your tasks, money, health log, settings and sign-ins stay exactly as they are, and the old version is saved so you can go back.

Privacy

Yours, and on your computer.

There's no Mellow server. Your Mellow account lives on your own computer, and nothing about you is sent anywhere unless you connect it.

Everything stays in one folder

Tasks, finances, health and conversations are plain files in the Mellow folder on your computer. Back it up to keep them, delete it to remove everything.

You choose what the AI sees

Money is private by default. Card, account and Social Security numbers are masked in anything sent, and bank exports are read on your computer.

Your keys, your sign-ins

Google access is read-only and comes from a client you create. The AI uses your own key, with a spending limit. Mellow never asks for bank logins.

Questions

Good to know.

Do I need an account?

You make one, and it stays on your computer: an email, a name and a password, kept in Mellow's own folder. There's no Mellow server to sign in to. It's what your data belongs to and how your phone or iPad signs in, and it's separate from Google, so you can connect as many Gmail accounts as you like without one of them being your login.

Is it really free?

Yes. Mellow is shared under the PolyForm Noncommercial License: use it, change it, share it with friends. You just can't sell it. The optional AI features use your own Anthropic key, which you pay for as you use them.

Do I need to install anything else?

No. The Windows and Mac apps carry Node.js, the small engine Mellow runs on, inside them. Mellow runs on your computer and shows itself in its own window.

Is there an iPhone or iPad app?

Not in the App Store. Mellow keeps your data on your own computer, so your computer runs it and your iPhone or iPad opens it: add it to your Home Screen and it looks and works like an app. The iPhone & iPad tab under Install shows how.

Windows says it "protected my PC". Is that bad?

That warning shows for any app that isn't from a big publisher. Click More infoRun anyway. On a Mac, your Mac says it couldn't verify Mellow: click Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Either way it's only the first time.

How do updates work?

You download the app once. Mellow checks mellow-track.com's releases a few times a day. When a new version is out, you'll see Update to … in the sidebar. Clicking Update now downloads it, keeps all your data, saves the old version under Accounts → Versions, and restarts. Downloading the app again also works: it updates your copy and keeps your data.

How do I quit or uninstall it?

Closing the window leaves Mellow running, so syncing and your phone keep working. To stop it on Windows, right-click its icon by the clock → Quit Mellow; on a Mac, Accounts → Updates → Quit Mellow. To remove it on Windows, go to Settings → Apps → Mellow → Uninstall; it asks whether to keep your data. On a Mac, quit it and delete the app and ~/Library/Application Support/Mellow, which holds all your data, so back it up first if you want to keep it.

My browser or antivirus won't let the Windows installer through

Some block any new app that isn't from a big publisher. Download Mellow-Windows.zip instead: right-click it, Extract All, open the Mellow folder and double-click Mellow. It's the same app.

I use Linux, or I'd rather run it myself

Mellow.zip is the plain code. Install Node.js (LTS), unzip it, and run start-ratchet.cmd on Windows or bash start-ratchet.command anywhere else. It updates itself the same way.

Does it work without Gmail or an AI key?

Yes. The calendar, tasks, finance, sleep screen and ADHD tools all work on their own, and .ics calendars and bank .csv exports are read without any key. Gmail adds homework and emails; the key adds the assistant and file reading.

Can it block distracting apps?

There's an optional blocker that locks games and sites while something is overdue. It ships switched off and only logs what it would do. The SETUP.md file in the folder explains how to turn it on.

Something isn't working

Most things are covered in the Guide inside Mellow (press 9). If the window says Mellow isn't responding, open the Mellow app again. Still stuck? Ask in the Mellow Discord. Its log is engine/app.log in the folder above, if someone asks to see it.

Make this week a calmer one.

Download the app, open it, and you're in. It keeps itself up to date from then on.
